2018 Scoring

  • Note: The following scoring description only applies to 2018 and is listed here for historical purposes.
  • Your top four race scores within a division (Ultra/Trail) will be used for series (Spring/Fall) standings. You MUST complete three division races to be eligible for series awards.
  • Men and Women are scored separately, except in the Last-Runner-Standing, where there is only one non-gender-specific winner for basing all race scores from.

Starting in Fall 2018:

EPIC RACES POINTS BONUS: Two of the Spring series’ races are so competitive, consistently attracting an elite group of national and international competitors, that we’ve decided to give an overall 10% (ten percent) base points bonus to ALL series members that finish them: Bandera 100K = 9 points bonus, and Rocky Raccoon 100M = 10 points bonus.

SMALL RACE ADJUSTMENT: On the flip-side of the coin to the above rule, we will apply a .9 points multiplier (a small points decrease) to races that only have 10 (ten) or less finishers.

Distance Based Points Formula (ex: 10K Trail race, 100M Ultra race)

Wt / Yt x base points = score

Wt = winning time in seconds*
Yt = your time in seconds

  • Ultra division base points:
    • 100 base points = 100M and longer races
    • 90 base points = 100K to sub-100M races
    • 85 base points = 50M to sub-100K races
    • 80 base points = > 26.2M (greater than a Marathon) to sub-50M races
  • Trail division base points:
    • 100 base points = 25M to Marathon (26.2M) races
    • 95 base points = 30K (18.6M) to sub-25M (< 25M) races
    • 90 base points = Half Marathon (13.1M) to sub-30K (< 18.6M) races
    • 85 base points = 10K (6.2M) to sub-Half Marathon (< 13.1M) races
    • 75 base points = sub-10K (< 6.2M) races
  • Distance-Based Relay Races:
    • Same as Distance-Based formula above but with 1/2 the above base points of the total team effort are contributed to team’s declared Series Club/Team…
    • Wt / Tt x (base points / 2) = score
    • A scoring relay team must meet the eligibility requirements described here.

Time Based Points Formula (ex: 9 hour Ultra race, 3 hour Trail race)

Yd / Wd x base points = score

Yd – your distance
Wd – winning distance*

  • Ultra division base points:
    • 100 base points = 24 hour and longer races
    • 90 base points = 12 hour to sub-24 hour races
    • 85 base points = 9 hour to sub-12 hour races
    • 80 base points = 6 hour to sub-9 hour races
  • Trail division base points:
    • 100 base points = 5 hour to sub-6 hour races
    • 90 base points = 3 hour to sub-5 hour races
    • 75 base points = 2 hour to sub-3 hour races
    • 70 base points = shorter than 2 hour races
  • Time-Based Relay Races:
    • Same as Time-Based formula above but with 1/2 the above base points of the total team effort are contributed to team’s declared Series Club/Team…
    • Td / Wd x (base points / 2) = score
    • A scoring relay team must meet the eligibility requirements described here.

*Winning time or distance is gender (Male/Female) specific.

Last-Runner-Standing Points Formula (ex: Constant laps on a schedule until one runner remains)

Yd / Wd x base points = score

Yd – your distance
Wd – winning distance**

  • Ultra division base points:
    • 100 base points = 100M or more run by the winner
    • 90 base points = 100K to sub-100M run by the winner
    • 85 base points = 50M to sub-100K run by the winner
    • 80 base points = > 26.2M (greater than a Marathon) to sub-50M run by the winner
  • Trail division base points:
    • 100 base points = 25M to Marathon (26M) run by the winner
    • 95 base points = 30K (18.6M) to sub-25M (< 25M) run by the winner
    • 90 base points = Half Marathon (13.1M) to sub-30K (< 18.6M) run by the winner
    • 85 base points = 10K (6.2M) to sub-Half Marathon (< 13.1M) run by the winner
    • 75 base points = sub-10K (< 6.2M) run by the winner

**Winning time or distance is *NOT* gender (Male/Female) specific.
